Job Description – Roles & Responsibilities
The Senior Manager – Operation Support & Technical Services plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the power plant. Below are the detailed responsibilities involved:
1. Monitoring Unit Efficiency & Technical Performance
The candidate will be responsible for monitoring overall unit performance, fuel efficiency, and process stability. Key responsibilities include:
- Monitoring unit efficiency parameters
- Conducting monthly PG (Performance Guarantee) tests
- Preparing and publishing performance reports
- Analyzing efficiency trends to identify performance gaps
This role requires a deep understanding of performance indicators, technical parameters, and power plant processes.
2. Start-Up & Shut-Down Coordination
Smooth operational transitions are crucial for plant safety and efficiency. The job involves:
- Coordinating unit start-up and shut-down with the operations team
- Ensuring proper documentation of all operational activities
- Maintaining communication with various technical departments
- Ensuring safety procedures are followed strictly
The ideal candidate must be knowledgeable in SOPs, interlock logic, and emergency operational procedures.
3. Testing of Interlocks & Protection Systems
A key responsibility is ensuring the reliability & safety of plant equipment:
- Supporting testing of interlock systems for boilers, turbines, and electrical equipment
- Assisting in protection system checks for HT (High Tension) equipment
- Ensuring systems function as per operational standards
This requires strong technical knowledge of power plant protection systems.
4. Power Sale Activities & SLDC Coordination
The candidate will assist in commercial and regulatory operations such as:
- Coordinating with SLDC (State Load Dispatch Centre)
- Supporting the power sale process
- Handling emergency communication related to power dispatch
- Ensuring compliance with grid regulations
Understanding grid operations is an added advantage for this role.
5. Analyzing Tripping Records & Conducting RCFA
The Senior Manager must investigate breakdowns and failures to improve reliability:
- Maintaining detailed tripping records
- Conducting RCFA (Root Cause Failure Analysis)
- Submitting reports and prevention strategies
- Implementing corrective actions to reduce failures
This responsibility requires strong diagnostic and analytical skills.
6. MIS Reports, Dashboards & Technical Documentation
The candidate will prepare essential operations documentation:
- Creating daily, monthly, and annual MIS reports
- Preparing operational dashboards for management
- Performing technical calculations
- Ensuring proper documentation for audits and compliance
Expertise in MS Office, reporting tools, and data visualization is valuable.
7. Cost-Benefit Analysis for New Projects
The role also involves participating in strategic decision-making:
- Conducting cost-benefit analysis for upcoming projects
- Recommending operational or technical improvements
- Working with project teams to optimize CAPEX & OPEX
- Identifying areas for process upgrades and innovation
