SSC CHSL Exam Selection Process Details:

Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (10+2) Exam for the recruitment of Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC)/ Junior Secretariat Assistant (JSA), and Data Entry Operator (DEO). Below are the details of the exam selection process:

Selection Process: The examination comprises three stages:

  1. Computer Based Examination (Tier-I) – (Objective Type)
  2. Computer Based Examination (Tier-II) – (Objective Type)
  3. Typing Test/ Skill Test (Tier-III)
    • Typing Test for LDC/ JSA
    • Skill Test for DEO

Written Examination: The written examination consists of one objective type – Multiple choice questions only. The questions are set in both English & Hindi for Part-II, III & IV.

1. Computer Based Examination (Tier-I): This exam is divided into four sections: General Intelligence, English Language (Basic Knowledge), Quantitative Aptitude (Basic Arithmetic Skill), and General Awareness. It comprises 200 marks with a negative marking of 0.50 marks for every wrong answer. Candidates qualifying Tier-I will be selected for Tier-II.

2. Computer Based Examination (Tier-II): This exam is divided into three sections, each with two modules. Tier-II consists of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-II of Section-III. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer. Candidates are advised to keep this in mind while answering the questions.

3. Tier III (Typing Test/ Skill Test):

  • Skill Test for Data Entry Operator:
    • Part A: Skill Test for DEO/ DEO Grade ‘A’ in Department/ Ministry
    • Part B: Skill Test for DEO/ DEO Grade ‘A’ except in Department/ Ministry
  • Typing Test for other posts i.e. LDC/ JSA:
    • Candidates have to opt for Hindi or English medium. Typing speed required is 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) for English and 30 w.p.m. for Hindi. The speed will be adjudged on the accuracy of typing on the Computer of a given text passage in 10 minutes.

Final Allotment: The final allotment of posts is based on merit-cum-preferences of Posts/Departments given by the candidates. Once a post is allotted, no change of posts will be made by the Commission due to non-fulfillment of any post-specific requirements.

Resolution of Tie Cases: In case of a tie in scores, merit will be decided based on:

  1. Marks scored in Section-I of Tier-II Examination
  2. Marks scored in Section-II of Tier-II Examination
  3. Date of birth, with older candidates placed higher
