Abilene ISD is investing $125,000 in Yondr pouches to curb cell phone distractions in schools starting in the 2024-2025 school year. The pouches will lock students’ phones, smartwatches, and earbuds during school hours, with designated unlocking stations at the end of the day. The district aims to enhance focus while addressing challenges in classrooms where phones are used for educational purposes. The policy also includes a $32 replacement fee for lost or damaged pouches.
